Introducing Crack Staff's "Daily Dose": News You Should Know!

(Here's what we hope will be a new daily feature here on the Official Brooklyn GOP Radio Blog. Those loyal listeners know about "Crack Staff", our slightly-off-kilter producer who knows more about NY Politics than anyone. What you don't know is that he is a 24-7-365 newshound who sends emails out daily to all of us on the show to get us primed to discuss matters on air. So we figured that "Crack" should share his knowledge, ingenuity and (what some would call) humor with the rest of the world! So here is your "Daily Dose" of news you should know! Graphic to come tomorrow! - GB)

Congressman Bob Turner Appointed to Veterans' Affairs, Foreign Affairs & Homeland Security Committees

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bob Turner (NY-09) was appointed to three House Committees including the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the House Committee on Homeland Security.

“I am very excited to be appointed to three important House committees,” said Congressman Bob Turner (NY-09). “I look forward to working with Chairman Miller, Chairman Ros-Lehtinen, Chairman King and my fellow committee members as I get to work representing the constituents of New York’s 9th congressional district and those affected by the decisions of each of these committees.”

Turner, a veteran himself, was appointed to the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs where he will serve with Chairman Jeff Miller. The committee evaluates current laws and reports bills and amendments to strengthen the laws concerning veterans and the Department of Veterans Affairs including health care, disability compensation, GI Bill education, home loan guarantees, life insurance policies, and veterans’ cemeteries.

“I am delighted to have Rep.Turner join the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. As a veteran himself, he will not only be an advocate for the veterans of New York, but on behalf of all of our veterans,” stated Rep. Jeff Miller, Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. “Together we will continue our work to ensure America’s veterans and their families receive the benefits they have rightfully earned.”

Additionally, Turner will serve on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs with Chairman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. The committee is responsible for the oversight of and legislation relating to national security, war powers, deployment of U.S. Armed Forces, enforcement of international sanctions, international law enforcement, foreign assistance, the Peace Corps, and the promotion of democracy.

“Congressman Turner is joining a GOP Committee roster that it committed to aggressively addressing threats to our national security and standing up for American interests, allies, and values abroad. Bob will be a great addition and I am pleased to have him on board,” Chairman Ros-Lehtinen said in a statement released today.

Finally, Turner was appointed to the House Committee on Homeland Security where he will serve with fellow member of the New York Congressional delegation, Chairman Peter King. The House Committee on Homeland Security was established in 2002 to provide Congressional oversight for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and to protect the United States from terrorist attacks.

“Rep. Bob Turner’s appointment to the Homeland Security Committee is fantastic news for New York. I look forward to working with Congressman Turner to make sure that New York receives the funding it needs to protect us from terror threats abroad and at home. Bob Turner knows that New York is the number one target - He is a fighter and will be a tremendous asset to our region and this Congress.”

All Hail "Political Grand Slam" Champions of the 3rd Ave. Festival!

All the Brooklyn GOP can do is WIN in 2011!

Following a thunderous triumph in the tug-of-war match at the Bay Ridge Community Council Picnic and the earth-shaking upset for Congressman Bob Turner in the 9th Congressional, our own State Senator Marty Golden and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis carried the GOP banner victoriously once again in the much bally-hooed Ping-Pong Political Grand Slam at the Third Avenue Festival in Bay Ridge, trouncing Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny and Councilman Vincent Gentile.

Nicole and Marty took the crown despite the fact that their Democratic opponents were practicing earlier in the week!

Congressman Michael Grimm was in attendance as a special official as was State Senator Diane Savino.

We won't show any pics of the Brooklyn Democrats in order to protect them from further embarrassment! So instead, here is the winning Dream Team victorious once again!
