BREAKING: President George H.W. Bush Endorses Michael Grimm For Congress

Just received this from the Grimm Campaign:

Michael Grimm’s Congressional campaign was honored on Thursday with an endorsement of unrivaled prestige – that of President George H.W. Bush.

The nation’s 41st President, George H.W. Bush served as Grimm’s Commander-in-Chief while Grimm served as a U.S. Marine in Operation Desert Storm. The former President seldom enters the political fray, especially to endorse a candidate. President Bush delivered this rare endorsement to Grimm personally at his Kennebunkport, Maine home.

“As the Commander-in-Chief at the time when Michael served our country in combat, liberating Kuwait in the first Gulf War, I am very pleased to endorse Michael Grimm for Congress in New York’s 13th Congressional District,” President Bush said. “Michael’s dedication to service as a U.S. Marine and as an FBI special agent exemplifies the type of commitment and integrity we need in Washington. Michael Grimm has the experience and proven leadership needed to get our economy back on track to create jobs and keep our nation safe.”

The ties between Grimm and President Bush run deep. In addition to being Grimm’s Commander-in-Chief, President Bush served as Director of the CIA, while Grimm was an undercover FBI agent. President Bush was a Congressman himself before serving as the Ambassador to the United Nations, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office in the People's Republic of China, and then Vice President of the United States during the presidency of Ronald Reagan.

“To be endorsed by my Commander-in-Chief is a unique honor,” said Grimm (R-Staten Island). “President Bush served our country nobly during World War II as a naval aviator, and of course, as our Commander-in-Chief during the Persian Gulf War. During times of war, such as the times we live in today, Congress needs men and women who have served our country, because we know firsthand the sacrifice and tremendous cost of liberty and freedom. My Commander-in-Chief’s personal endorsement is an honor and a memory I will treasure for my entire life.”
