All My Children

Since being sworn in as our 109th Mayor of New York City, Warren Wilhelm Bill de Blasio and his administration has decided to overturn many of former Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s decisions that have helped New York City prosper.

De Blasio’s latest plan of attack focuses on charter schools. The Mayor has decided to block the opening of nine charter schools from the 45 schools that were set to open this Fall. Out of the nine blocked, three are Success Academy schools, run by former City Councilwoman Eva Moskowitz.

Heard At CPAC: CFIF: Conservatives Should Right To Protect IP Rights

Here is a photo of Tim Lee doing another radio show, because we didn't get a photo with him...
If someone claimed your car as their own, I bet you'd be jumping up and down screaming that, among other things, your rights have been violated.  So why should protecting your writings, your creations and your ideas be any different.

That's the point that Tim Lee of the Center For Individual Freedom made to me during our interview at CPAC.

Check out the interview.

Heard At CPAC: API's Karen Moreau Gives Us A Real Education On NY Hydrofracking

Listen to our interview with API's Karen Moreau - a NY attorney who has become the leading advocate for hydro fracking in the state.  (Photo by Diana Sepulveda)
I have to admit - for all the news in the past year about hydraulic fracturing - or "hydrofracking" - I did not have the first clue about the process involved.

So when Russ and I got to meet Karen Moreau of the American Petroleum Institute (API) at CPAC, I was glad to get a real education about the processes and the benefits of 'fracking.

Karen is the leading educated voice on the issue.  She is a graduate of Siena College, received her Juris Doctorate from the Albany Law School of Union University and has 25 years experience in municipal, land use and zoning law, real property tax assessment, real estate development, and the general practice of law. Her new job  catapulted her from local NY lawyer who made good into the national debate on shale gas drilling and she is widely considered to be the voice of advocates for hydraulic fracturing in New York's deep Marcellus reserves.

Heard At CPAC: "In Search Of Liberty" - A Film For Patriots, Funded By Patriots

Talking about  "In Search of Liberty" with Norm Novitsky (and Kohut hit record!)
After conquering the world of real estate, Norm Novitsky has taken on a daunting mission - a film project that brings Constitutional principles into a modern setting that is informative and entertaining all while bypassing the Hollywood "cognoscenti".

And what he came up with was "In Search of Liberty" - a project YOU can help make a reality.

EXCLUSIVE: Brooklyn GOP Radio Sits Down W/ Rep. Steve Stockman

Russell Gallo & Gene Berardelli sit down for an exclusive chat with Congressman Steve Stockman (R-TX)
Congressman Steve Stockman is a lightning rod for controversy - something Russell & Gene came to know when a CPAC party promoting the show was blown out of proportion simply because of the Congressman's proximity to an outdoor hot tub in their suite!  But he is also serious about conservatism, fundamental rights and bringing jobs back home to his district.  These are just a fee of the topics touched on in Brooklyn GOP Radio's exclusive interview with the representative of Texas's 36th District.

Heard At CPAC: Michael Garcar Makes Conservatism Cool

Buy. This. Book.
Ohio Young Republican author Michael Garcar is on a mission to reach as many young people as he can to bring a new message - that being conservative can actually be kinda cool. So to bridge the gap between the Republican Party and millenials, Michael has written a book - Making Conservatism Cool.

"It may seem like a daunting task at first, but if you just look at this generation to begin with," said Garcar when we spoke to him at CPAC.  "You have to make conservatism cool."

"If we don't, the national Republican party... may not exist."

Heard At CPAC: Access Charges For The Internet? It Could Happen

David Williams, President of the watchdog organization Taxpayers Protection Alliance, which monitors government waste is a guy after my own heart - he tilts at a lot of windmills.  His latest - bringing awareness to the possibility that your access to the internet may be taxed if government doesn't act timely.  Listen to our interview after the jump:

Christie to CPAC: Republicans Must Win - Together

NJ Gov. Chris Christie addresses CPAC 2014  (Courtesy:  WSJ)
Coming to CPAC with his head up high, NJ Gov. Chris Christie gave his CPAC speech on the first day early Thursday afternoon putting forth the argument that Republicans must win elections in order to succeed.

Christie received a standing ovation when he stepped up to the podium from the crowd, even though some still harbor mixed feelings about the Republican governor known for his hug of President Obama in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Christie reminded the crowd that all conservatives of every degree  should "come out resolved not only to stand for our principles, but lets come out of this conference resolved to win elections again."

We're are still recovering from CPAC.  Only one word describes our annual trip to the DC area - EPIC.

Will The Real Rick Perry Please Stand Up

Gallo:  Gov. Perry!  I'm From Brooklyn and I'm wearing a cowboy hat!  Let's Take A Picture!"
Gov. Perry:  "You're from Brooklyn? Hell yeah, let's take a picture!"
True. Story.
If anyone attended or saw the Friday 9:00 AM CPAC speech for Texas Gov. Rick Perry, they probably walked in to the main ballroom tired.  But they left hyped for this upcoming midterm year and 2016 presidential races.

A wildcard contender for 2016, Perry talked about the relationship between the states and the federal government. The theme for his short and fiery speech -  “it's not too late, America” -  reminded conservative that we are here "to not accept recent history, we just need to change the presidency".

ICYMI: My Appearance on Brooklyn Public Network's BK Live!

In case you missed the live broadcast, Gene joined hosts Brian Vines and Aaron Watkins for a discussion of Conservative Brooklyn Radio along with Brooklyn media mogul / kingmaker Gregory Davidzon.  We talked about conservatives on the radio, CPAC and being a Republican in Brooklyn.  Check it out!

I had a blast talking with Brian and Aaron, who are hosts that let their guests shine.  It was an honor to be on with Gregory - we don't always see eye to eye on all things politics, but he has always been a gentleman towards me.

A shot from the outside looking into the studio -can't wait to do this again!

Ukraine Flashpoint Glows Brighter With Russian "Invasion"

Photo Coutesy:  ABC News
In case you've been living under a rock, you know that Russian troops recently landed in Ukraine after weeks of rioting and violence, with the future direction of the nation and its people at stake. . The troops have surrounded military bases and have urged Ukrainian militants to surrender and to give them their weapons.

This is the latest tipping point in what has been an under-reported struggle between spheres of influence. Ukraine has been split between joining the EU or remaining within Russia's sphere, splitting the nation in half.

Obviously, Putin does not want to lose Ukraine. So,  he decides to invade, with the full support from his government.  Even though Russia is blocking access to Ukrainian bases, Putin said that the Ukrainian army will still be able to continue protecting the nation..

Tensions are growing - NATO has told Russia that it should not interfere with the struggles within  Ukraine and should leave at once -even though Ukraine is not a NATO member.  That means the United States is not obligated to come to Ukraine's defense, despite Ukrainians' pleas for help.  Ukrainian Prime Minister Yatsenyuk said, "This is not a threat. This is actually a declaration of war to my country."

"We are on the brink of the disaster!"

(Editor's Note - Vito DiGiovanni is a student at Brooklyn College, a contributor to the show and co-host of the Vito & Vito Show - a Brooklyn GOP Radio Production.  Check out the show blog and V&V's Facebook page)

#EpicFail - Marty Golden's RFC Loses - Again - To Craig Eaton & Brooklyn GOP

First, the decision.  Then later, some commentary from Russell and I.  And maybe, a little victory dance...

More #EpicFail: Nocera Throws Facebook Tantrum, "Steals" Facebook Group

(not an actual photo of Glenn Nocera - but pretty darn close if you ask me!)

STOP!  THIEF!

Some of you know Glenn Nocera.  He's done a lot of... let's call them interesting things in his career as an active Republican.

He has run for office and got 7% of the vote - #EpicFail.

He has helped others run for office, just to get knocked off the ballot - #EpicFail.

He called Brooklyn GOP Chairman Craig Eaton a "nasty son of a bitch" at the Brooklyn GOP County Convention - #EpicFail.

He joined Republicans for Change as a way to try to take over the leadership of the Brooklyn GOP - #EpicFail.

He sued the duly elected Brooklyn Republican Party leadership, but left out necessary parties.  #EpicFail.

He's a connoisseur of music (skip to the last four minutes of our last show... if you dare) -  #EpicFail.

And now, mere hours after this latest #EpicFail,  the reigning 3rd Place Buffoon has taken the last refuge of a coward - censorship.

Our good buddy Glenn has taken to censoring the Brooklyn Republican Party Facebook group.  And kicking out yours truly - the duly elected Law Chairman of the Brooklyn GOP - from my organization's own Facebook group.
